The Role

The Assessment Project Officer is part of ICAS Assessments’ Test Development team that produce a range of online formative and summative assessments for use in educational settings within Australia and internationally. These assessments cover the full range of educational areas including aspects of literacy (such as reading, writing, spelling, and grammar and punctuation), mathematics, science and digital technologies. An APO has the opportunity to not only to work in their area of expertise but to assist other teams. A strong understanding of assessment principles and how schools and parents use assessment is essential.

We are seeking applications for the following APO positions:
    • APO Literacy (full time, 12-month contract with extension possible)
    • APO Literacy (full time, maternity leave for 7 months with extension possible)
    • APO Mathematics (full time, 12-month contract with extension possible)
    • APO Science (full time, permanent)
    • APO Science (full time, 12-month contract with extension possible).
Duties Include
    • Working with other team members to raise the level of innovation in items and assessments and encourage student engagement while maintaining accepted psychometric and test design principles
    • Training and managing item writers and reviewers (internal and external) and ensuring an adequate pool of expertise to deliver assessment materials for a range of products
    • Liaising with other internal teams and with external stakeholders, ensuring that all aspects of test construction are achieved within project timelines, to project specifications and within budget
    • Ensuring priorities are recognised and workflow is efficiently managed
    • Critically reviewing and evaluating assessment materials across a range of subject areas and teams
    • Applying knowledge of the analysis and evaluation of assessment materials to ensure all assessments are of the highest quality

About you

You are a creative communicator who believes that high-quality, engaging assessments can help students to reach their full potential. To be successful in this role, you will have a relevant undergraduate or postgraduate degree and demonstrated primary, secondary or tertiary teaching experience as well as an understanding of student performance in your subject area at primary/secondary levels of schooling.  You will have knowledge of current assessment and reporting issues, locally, nationally and internationally. Experience at all stages of test construction, including the use and production of innovative computer-based educational material will give you an advantage.

To succeed in this role, you will have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to negotiate effectively and build relationships. A strong customer focus is a key requirement.
