The role

The Data Engineer is responsible for the designing, communicating, estimating and piloting of technical data reporting and data integration related solutions in support of the product roadmap.

Working within the Architecture team to deliver to defined architecture practices and approaches whilst also participating in continuous improvement of the same.

Responsible for technical data-oriented solutions that meet both the functional and non-functional (quality attributes) of a requirement, ensuring that the deliverable aligns with business goals.

The Data Engineer should be comfortable with communicating and working with both technical and non-technical teams and groups across the Janison business.

Duties include:

  • Reporting directly to the Head of Architecture, and working within the Architecture team, you are responsible for designing, communicating, estimating and trialing technical data reporting and data integration related solutions.
  • Contribute to the architecture team developing the technology roadmap, architecture and solution building blocks.
  • Design and architect scalable, resilient, and secure data reporting and data integration solutions using Architecture team and industry best practices.
  • Produce solution designs and deliverables that focus on cost effectiveness and process efficiency.
  • Work closely with Product Owners in designing solutions in support of the product roadmap.
  • Work closely with Operations and development teams for continuous improvement and architecture guidance in the areas of (inter alia) data security, data performance, cost-effectiveness, delivery speed, support and automation.
  • Participate in Tender responses and provide data domain expertise to the sales team as part of the Architecture team’s response into that process.
  • Responsible for solutioning as required within TOGAF, ITIL, ISO27001, GDPR, Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM) frameworks.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have technical experience in designing and implementing Data Reporting and Data Integration solutions in the Enterprise and/or Startup space.

You will have detailed knowledge of data related systems and usage of components and practices such as EDW, Kimball Modeling, Data Lake, End-user Reporting, Relational, NoSQL and ETL/ELT as well as data technologies such as SQL Azure, ADF, NoSQL on the Azure platform.

Along with this, you will have working knowledge one or more of Power BI (or equivalent), Database Performance and Tuning, ML, Azure Synapse (or equivalent) and experience conducting technical Research and developing Proof of Concepts.


It is preferable that you’ll have previous experience in Agile and/or Product development environments and experience working in environments with TOGAF, ITIL, ISO27001, GDPR, Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM) frameworks.

It is essential to this role that you hold or be willing/able to obtain, relevant security clearances as you will be required to work on client systems that are protected by state and/or federal security mechanisms.
