Assessment Project Officer-Literacy

Position Summary

The Assessment Project Officer plays a pivotal role in developing a range of summative and formative Reading assessments for use in educational settings within Australia and internationally, while also providing expert assessment advice on other Literacy subjects – including Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation and Writing.

You’ll collaborate closely with internal teams and external experts to manage assessment projects end-to-end, ensuring delivery is on time, on budget and of the highest quality. This role involves collaboratively developing and reviewing assessment questions, coordinating multiple contributors and working iteratively through feedback cycles to ensure high-quality, engaging assessment materials.

We’re looking for someone who not only brings strong educational and literacy expertise, but also an interest in how emerging technologies – including AI – can enhance creativity, streamline item development and drive innovation in test design.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced educator or assessment professional who loves the intersection of creativity, precision and educational impact. We are currently accepting applicants based in Australia or New Zealand. This role is a 12-month contract.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Be actively involved in item development (the creation and review of assessment texts and questions), managing internal and external contributors to ensure successful delivery of assessment projects
  • Train and manage item writers and reviewers (internal and external) and ensure an adequate pool of expertise to deliver assessment materials for a range of products
  • Liaise with other internal teams and with external stakeholders, ensuring that all aspects of test construction, review, test delivery and report production are achieved within project timelines, to project specifications and within budget
  • Ensure priorities are recognised and workflow is efficiently managed
  • Work with other members of the Literacy team to raise the level of innovation in items and assessments and encourage student engagement while maintaining accepted psychometric and test design principles
  • Critically review and evaluate assessment materials across a range of subject areas and teams
  • Apply knowledge of the analysis and evaluation of assessment materials to ensure all assessments are of the highest quality

 

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

Essential:

  • A relevant undergraduate or postgraduate degree and demonstrated teaching experience. Primary experience is preferred for this role (although secondary or tertiary backgrounds will be considered).
  • Understanding of learner and educator needs to inform high-quality assessment design, of current assessment practices and of how student learning is measured and reported in schools
  • Understanding of student performance in Literacy subjects at the primary/secondary levels of schoolingStrong leadership and people development capability
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to manage collaborative discussions and maintain positive working relationships
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback with professionalism and resilience, including comfort with frequent feedback cycles
  • Demonstrated digital literacy and the ability to learn new online tools and systems, including MS Office
  • A strong customer focus, high attention to detail and a passion for improving learning outcomes

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with test construction processes
  • Experience developing educational assessment materials at a state or national level
