Assessment Project Officer – STEM (Mathematics Specialist)
Position summary
The Assessment Project Officer plays a pivotal role in developing assessments in Mathematics and Reasoning, while also providing expert advice on other STEM subjects – including Science and Digital Technologies.
You’ll collaborate closely with internal teams and external experts to manage assessment projects end-to-end, ensuring delivery is on time, on budget and of the highest quality.
We’re looking for someone who not only brings strong educational and mathematical expertise, but also an interest in how emerging technologies – including AI – can enhance creativity, streamline item development and drive innovation in test design.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced educator or assessment professional who loves the intersection of creativity, precision and educational impact.
This is a full-time position, but we are also open to part-time, 4 days per week. This position is offered as a fixed-term contract commencing in January 2026 and concluding in November 2026.
Duties & responsibilities
Assessment Development & Project Management
- Manage internal and external item development processes to ensure successful project delivery.
- Liaise with internal teams and external contributors to coordinate test construction, review and reporting within timelines and budgets.
- Maintain strong oversight of project priorities and ensure workflow is efficiently managed.
Innovation & Quality
- Collaborate with AAS and ICAS Assessment team members to design engaging and innovative assessment materials that align with sound test design and psychometric principles.
- Critically review and evaluate assessment materials to maintain quality, accuracy and educational value.
- Apply analytical skills to ensure assessments are valid, reliable and effectively measure student performance.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Work cross-functionally with content creators, editors and psychometricians to deliver cohesive assessment products.
- Contribute ideas to improve processes, efficiency and innovation across the Test Development team.
- Support other assessment teams as needed to ensure the successful delivery of all AAS & ICAS products.
About you
Essential
- A relevant degree and demonstrated experience teaching Mathematics or another STEM subject at primary or secondary level.
- Strong understanding of assessment and reporting principles.
- Insight into student performance in STEM subjects and current education trends.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively.
- Experience with developing or using online educational materials.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable learning new digital systems.
- Experience using AI-models as a tool to aid in developing educational content.
- A strong customer focus, high attention to detail and a passion for improving learning outcomes.
Desirable
- Familiarity with test construction processes.
- Experience developing educational assessment materials at a state or national level.
- Familiarity with item authoring or authoring on digital assessment platforms.
