Educational Assessments Expert – STEM (Chinese)

Position Summary

The Educational Assessments Expert – STEM (Chinese) is responsible for managing the translation and localisation of all ICAS papers where required. The primary focus of this position is the management of the ICAS Science and ICAS Mathematics papers translated into traditional Chinese for the Hong Kong market.

You’ll collaborate closely with internal teams and external experts to manage translation projects end-to-end, ensuring delivery is on time, on budget and of the highest quality.

We’re looking for someone who is not only proficient in Chinese, including the ability to read traditional Chinese characters, but also has strong educational and STEM expertise and an interest in how emerging technologies – including AI – can streamline translation processes and drive innovation in test design.

Duties & Responsibilities

Assessment Development & Project Management

  • Maintain strong oversight of project priorities and ensure workflow is efficiently managed
  • Be actively involved in managing internal and external translation processes to ensure successful delivery of assessment projects
  • Liaise with internal teams and external contributors, ensuring that all aspects of test construction, review, test delivery and report production are achieved within project timelines, to project specifications and within budget

Innovation & Quality

  • Review all translations from English to traditional Chinese and back again, within the lens of a STEM education expert
  • Critically review and evaluate assessment materials across a range of subject areas and teams to maintain quality, accuracy and educational value
  • Collaborate with other members of the STEM team to raise the level of innovation in items and assessments and encourage student engagement while maintaining accepted psychometric principles and sound test design
  • Apply analytical skills to ensure assessments are valid, reliable and effectively measure student performance

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Work with relevant teams to investigate AI-assisted workflows for translation of ICAS assessments
  • Apply knowledge of the analysis and evaluation of assessment materials to ensure all translated assessments are of the highest quality
  • Support other assessment teams as needed to ensure the successful delivery of all Janison Assessment products

 

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

Essential:

  • An undergraduate or postgraduate degree majoring in Education or Linguistics (or related field) and/or relevant teaching experience of STEM subjects at Primary or Secondary level
  • Exceptional reading and writing skills in Chinese, including using traditional Chinese characters
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, in English and Chinese, including the ability to manage collaborative discussions and maintain positive working relationships
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback with professionalism and resilience.
  • Demonstrated digital literacy and the ability to learn new online tools and systems, including MS Office

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the education system in Hong Kong
  • Knowledge of current assessment and reporting issues, locally, nationally and internationally and experience at all stages of test construction
