Head of Quality Assurance
Position Summary
As Janison continues to scale, your mandate is to elevate QA into a world-class, strategic capability – building the processes, culture, and tooling that match the ambition of the business and our customers. This is a transformation role designed for a leader who will move beyond operational management to create a genuine strategic advantage through quality.
You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining comprehensive quality standards across our high-stakes assessment platforms. At Janison, “high stakes” is not just a technical term; it represents a child’s school placement, a professional’s license, or a critical government contract. Your leadership is the function that keeps our clients confident and our reputation strong, ensuring the integrity of assessment experiences that significantly impact learners’ educational and professional futures.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Strategic Transformation: Develop and implement comprehensive QA strategies and methodologies specifically for high-stakes testing environments, maturing the function into a modern, scalable capability.
- AI and Automation Leadership: Champion the adoption of AI-assisted testing tools and an automation-first mindset to build a QA capability that scales efficiently without linear headcount growth.
- High-Consequence Reliability: Establish robust testing protocols for security, data integrity, and test-delivery reliability where failure has real-world consequences for candidates and stakeholders.
- Technical Performance Excellence: Enhance technical performance testing capabilities to enable repeatable processes for load, soak, and stress testing at scale.
- Organisational Influence: Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Project Management at a senior level to identify and mitigate quality risks, holding the line on quality under commercial pressure.
- Talent Development: Build and lead a diverse team of QA professionals; developing and growing talent while ensuring work is completed to the highest standard.
- Culture Advocacy: Make quality a shared organizational value, shifting the culture so that quality is a collective responsibility rather than just a QA team task.
- Continuous Evolution:Shape Janison’s approach to evolving standards and best practices in assessment security and integrity, ensuring the business remains at the forefront of the industry.
- Incident Leadership: Lead incident response and resolution for critical quality issues, maintaining a focus on rapid recovery and long-term prevention.
Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
- Transformation Track Record: Demonstrated experience in scaling and maturing a QA function, moving it from a traditional model to a modern, strategic capability.
- High-Stakes Expertise: 8+ years of QA experience (5+ in leadership) specifically within regulated or high-consequence environments (e.g., EdTech, Fintech, or GovTech).
- Change Agency: Clear evidence of having successfully shifted organizational culture around quality and technical excellence.
- Technical Vision: Experience implementing and managing automated testing frameworks with a focus on AI-assisted testing and intelligent automation.
- Specialised Testing: Strong understanding of security testing, accessibility compliance, and technical performance testing for complex software systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Executive Communication: Excellent communication skills with the ability to advocate for quality and influence peers at the CEO-2 level.
- A self-starter who can drive progress and make sound decisions independently, without needing close direction.
