Position Summary:

As Senior UX/Product Designer, you will create exceptional user experiences across Janison’s suite of assessment products. Working closely with Product Owners and embedded within Scrum teams, you’ll design intuitive interfaces and guide users through complex educational tasks. We need someone with deep empathy for users, a passion for education, and a highly pragmatic approach who thrives in a technology-led environment. You’ll need to pick your battles wisely, build compelling cases for design improvements, and find creative solutions within technical constraints while maintaining enthusiasm for creating meaningful experiences that truly support educational outcomes. 

With people around Australia, Singapore, Auckland and London you will work as part of a distributed team. Must be willing to work Australian Eastern Standard Time business hours. Preferably located near one of our offices in Sydney, Coffs Harbour or Melbourne. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Product Design 

  • Design exceptional user experiences across multiple products, including flagship Janison Insights (progressively transitioning to Angular Material) and existing platform components 
  • Work collaboratively with Product Owners to translate requirements into user-centred experiences 
  • Guide users through complex educational tasks with empathy and understanding of diverse user needs 
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs primarily using Figma 
  • Design data visualisations and information hierarchies where needed to support user goals 
  • Work within design systems, focusing on component consistency and systematic approaches 

Collaboration & Delivery 

  • Be embedded within product team stand-ups, participate in sprint reviews, and attend backlog refinement sessions as needed 
  • Work closely with internal experts including psychometricians, teachers, and item authoring teams to understand user contexts 
  • Build compelling cases for design improvements with engineering teams, understanding technical constraints and effort required 
  • Present design concepts to stakeholders, support presales activities, and effectively communicate design value to technical teams 
  • Interpret data independently to identify real opportunities beyond proposed technical solutions 
  • Proactively seek out best practices, new design approaches, and emerging technologies including AI applications in UX 

About you:

Essential Requirements 

  • 5+ years of experience in UX/UI design or product design, ideally in technology-led environments 
  • Strong user experience design skills with ability to understand and empathise with diverse user needs 
  • Experience designing intuitive interfaces for complex or technical products 
  • Proficiency in Figma as primary design tool 
  • Experience with design systems, component libraries, or systematic design approaches 
  • Highly pragmatic approach with ability to prioritise efforts and build compelling cases for design changes 
  • Technical curiosity with ability to interpret data and understand engineering constraints 
  • Resilient mindset that thrives in challenging technical environments 
  • Self-motivated proactive learner who seeks out best practices, new ideas, and emerging technologies 

Highly Desirable 

  • Passion for education and understanding of educational technology challenges 
  • Experience with information design, data visualisation, or analytics interfaces 
  • Experience with Angular Material, Material Design, or other component-based design systems 
  • Experience working embedded within agile/scrum development teams 
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and prototyping skills using Figma 
  • Interest in AI applications in user experience design
